The What, Where and Why of Digital Media for Businesses
Digital media is a much-discussed term that is promulgated across a variety of different business landscapes. The phrase can be used to describe a wide range of different types of digital information presentations, including video, still images, interactive content and next-generation unified communications.
How are companies using digital media in order to reach out to and connect with customers and clients? There are as many different applications of this particular technology as there are business models. However, most digital media strategies stem from the same general principles. It has been found that the combination of video and audio information (the basis of multimedia content) makes it much more likely that individuals will concentrate on and retain the message being presented. Special Video Conferencing Event: Recording Artist Jewel to Perform Live via Cisco TelePresence
Cisco TelePresence and recording artist Jewel will be broadcasting a unique event today from San Jose, California that will take full advantage of the capabilities of Cisco’s most advanced high definition video conferencing system. It is the kind of event that is only possible through the “magic” of modern technology – a live concert by an established and respected musician that will offer an intimate glimpse into her music and words to an audience of potentially millions of fans.
Jewel has enjoyed substantial success as a singer and a songwriter, placing many songs within the Billboard top ten as well as launching a second career as a country artist after leaving the pop realm in the 2000’s. She is also no stranger to the Cisco TelePresence world, having previously used this technology in order to participate in the United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2009 along with members of The Nature Conservancy. Cisco played a vital role in bringing that conference’s interested parties together in a way that allowed them to transcend geography and discuss the important issues at hand.

Major League Baseball Teams Up With Cisco TelePresence
Professional sports are embracing telepresence and digital video delivery at a more rapid rate in order to help reach a fanbase that is increasingly internet-savvy. Major League Baseball and Cisco recently announced a long-term agreement to help modernize MLB’s media efforts through a fully modern video technology infrastructure. Cisco’s state-of-the-art video and communications technologies will complement Major League Baseball’s current sports content and give it new and interactive avenues for bringing spectators that much closer to the action.
One of the key components of MLB’s partnership with Cisco is the implementation of Cisco TelePresence in the context of the “Intentional Talk” television program broadcast on the MLB Network. Cisco TelePresence will allow hosts Chris Rose and Kevin Millar to run the show as though they were in the same studio even when they are located in their respective Texas and California home bases. The show will maintain the same type of face-to-face banter and conversation that is a key aspect of the program’s format.

Telecom Professional Linkedin Group Roundup – March 2011
Linkedin offers telecommunications professionals the chance to connect with others in their field in order to exchange ideas, make new contacts and explore some of the hot topics that are emerging across the industry. In particular, the Telecom Professionals group has attracted 146,162 members since it was founded in 2007. Linkedin groups are intended to offer more focused discussion and a higher level of personal interaction amongst like-minded individuals on the site, creating an online community that provides a deeper level of insight into a particular industry thanks to significant involvement from its members.
Telecom Professionals group participants make use of the gathering of telecommunications workers, gurus, entrepreneurs and innovators in a number of different ways. Over the course of the last month (March 2011), one of the surging topics of discussion within the group had to do with job opportunities. Not only were a number of group members looking for jobs, but a seemingly equal number of discussion postings advertised open positions. This would appear to indicate that the telecommunications field is rebounding strongly from the economic crisis that paralyzed several sectors of the economy over the past two years. In particular, Erin Ruff of CommScope (@CommScopeERuff), was quite active in posting a broad range of different positions open at the telecommunications company.
